Tread & Pedals Bike Cog and Wheel Clocks

At Tread & Pedals we (Em and Ivan) design and handcraft sustainable wares for him, her and home using up-cycled bicycle parts. Our products are mighty diverse and range from homewares, to jewellery and accessories. Last year we saved over two large shipping containers of bicycle parts from going to landfill through re-purposing them into fun and functional designs.

Everything in our little shop is designed and hand made by us, Em and Ivan, in our studio and workshop in the scenic Dandenong Ranges about an hours drive from Melbourne. We craft the products using hand tools and are quite old-fashioned in our approach, with the result that each item produced is of the highest quality.

When not riding our bicycles, you will find us tinkering away in our home studio, up to our armpits in bike parts. We manipulate the metals (cogs, chains…) through soldering, hammering, twisting, heat treating and sculpting them into various forms – making our jewelry, home-wares and accessories. We craft the bicycle tube with scalpel into floaty jewelry designs and the bicycle tyres into belts and bottle holders.

Tread & Pedals was born whilst working at a bike store in inner Melbourne several years ago, as we were amazed at the amount of bicycle parts that were going straight to landfill. It was then that we decided to make something from this so-called trash and started looking at bike parts in a whole new way.

We love bicycles, so much we think they deserve a second life!
